Rainbow Water District supplies drinking and household water to homes and businesses in north and west Springfield, and it provides fire protection as well. Voters formed the district in 1949, and it serves well water to its retail customers, with some additional supply coming through a wholesale contract with the Springfield Utility Board.
A five-member Board of Commissioners, elected from among district residents, oversees the district and meets monthly. Jamie Porter has served as superintendent since 2010. Customers can pay bills online and sign up for text alerts. The office sits inside the freeway cloverleaf on N 42nd Street, and the service area lies primarily north of Hayden Bridge Road and west of Aspen Street.
