Deering Banjo Company makes banjos and nothing else, building them by hand in its Spring Valley shop. The lineup runs from the Goodtime series for beginners through the Eagle, Golden and Vega models, along with artist series instruments and custom builds. Banjos are sold through dealers and directly from the company's website, where the Deering name also appears on shirts, mugs and other merchandise.
The company is family owned and was founded in 1975 by Greg and Janet Deering, with their daughter Jamie now serving as CEO. Its showroom at 3733 Kenora Drive in Spring Valley is open by appointment on weekdays, so it's best to book ahead, and visitors can try a range of models and pick up accessories. Phone lines are staffed on weekdays, with a lunch break around midday.
