Traditional mead made with honey from its own hives15981 Breezy Hill Lane, Smithfield, VA
Breezy Hill Meadworks makes mead, a wine fermented from honey, using honey from its own beehives. Traditional mead is the core of the line, with a range of flavors brewed in batches sized around 100 gallons. Founder Ed Schweiger made the first batch in 1989, and the operation later moved onto the farm where he keeps his hives.
The tasting room is open Friday and Saturday afternoons into the evening and Sunday afternoons. Tastings on Monday through Thursday are by appointment, so calling ahead is the way to plan a weekday visit. The property is wooded, and visitors can walk the grounds before or after a glass. Meads can also be shipped to more than 40 states through a partner service. The meadery is on Breezy Hill Lane in Smithfield, Virginia.
