S.B. Cox Ready Mix

Farmers Service is a combined hardware store, ready-mix concrete plant and public stone yard on Main Street in Smithfield. The hardware side is an Ace Hardware stocking tools, home improvement supplies, and lawn and garden goods, backed by personalized service. The concrete plant makes ready-mix for residential and commercial jobs, while the stone yard sells sand, gravel, stone, topsoil and mulch for landscaping and construction, serving farmers, contractors and do-it-yourselves alike.

The location is owned by S.B. Cox Ready Mix, which has run it since 2013 under its original name. Customers can shop online and pick up in store, and the stone yard handles loose materials over the counter. Concrete orders go through the company's dispatch line, and the company also runs a concrete-only plant in Chesapeake. Weekend hours are shorter on Sunday, so plan a weekday or Saturday visit for a full range of stone and concrete orders.
