Nite Hawk Bar&Grill

Nite Hawk Bar & Grill is a bar and grill in Slater known for its homemade lunch and evening specials and its pork tenderloin sandwiches. The menu runs from broasted chicken and pizza to burgers and appetizers, with a rotating set of homemade desserts. The Des Moines Register called the meatloaf and mashed potatoes a must-have, and the restaurant placed fifth in the 2019 Iowa Tenderloin Contest. Daily drink specials and bloody Marys are available every day.

The bar sits beside the High Trestle Trail and the Heart of Iowa bike trail, so cyclists can stop in after a long ride. Inside there are eight large screen TVs, a pool table, darts, and bowling and golf games, along with an indoor bar and an outdoor bar. Takeout is available, and the covered patio is heated for year-round use. Live music, bike nights and classic car nights are regular events, and the restaurant hosts parties and groups.
