Somos Handcrafted Arepas

Somos Handcrafted Arepas is a counter-style restaurant built around the Venezuelan arepa, a corn pocket stuffed with your choice of protein, seasonal vegetables and other toppings. The menu also includes semi-sweet corn pancakes called cachapas, protein bowls on a base of rice, sweet corn or lettuce, tequeños, and empanadas filled with beef, chicken or cheese. Two brothers born in the United States to Venezuelan parents started the place to share the food they grew up eating.

Arepas work at any hour, so regulars stop in for breakfast, lunch, dinner or a late snack. Orders can be placed online, and gift cards are available for yourself or someone else. The restaurant has outdoor seating, and a second location is on Orange Street in New Haven, while the Shelton spot is on Bridgeport Avenue.
