Dr. PAWS

Dr. PAWS is a companion animal hospital in Scranton that has been in business since 1999, offering preventive care, vaccinations, microchipping and annual physical exams for pets. Its surgical suite handles dental cleanings, tooth extractions and minor oral surgery, and an in-house laboratory returns many blood, urine and fecal results in less than an hour. Digital radiology is on site, and the hospital stocks prescription diets and a full pharmacy.

Scheduled surgeries take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and orthopedic or complicated soft tissue cases are referred to a local board-certified surgeon. Appointments are scheduled with enough time for questions, and the team can arrange referrals to specialists at the University of Pennsylvania and Cornell University. The hospital is closed on Sundays. After-hours emergencies are directed to partner emergency hospitals in Plains, Stroudsburg and Allentown, and boarding and grooming are not offered, though staff can recommend kennels and groomers.
