Bettencourt Builders

Bettencourt Builders designs and builds decks, arbors and backyard living spaces, working with composite decking from Trex as well as redwood and Ipe. Its work includes composite decks, pergolas, patio covers, outdoor kitchens and gazebos, along with stucco walls, retaining walls, pavers and crushed granite paths. The company traces its roots to M&M Builders, founded in 1984, and is now run by owner Joe Bettencourt.

Bettencourt handles the design and oversees each project from start to finish with his crew. Most jobs are in the South Bay and Peninsula, including Los Altos, Los Gatos, Saratoga, Palo Alto, Campbell, Mountain View and San Jose. The office is in Willow Glen in San Jose, and the company says it recycles its scrap wood and avoids old-growth redwood where it can.
