Minneapolis Electrical JATC

The Minneapolis Electrical JATC is a nonprofit joint apprenticeship training committee sponsored by IBEW Local Union 292 and the Twin Cities NECA. It runs a five-year electrical apprenticeship where apprentices earn paid on-the-job training with union contractors alongside classroom instruction, and it also offers continuing education classes for IBEW members, including credit classes toward Minnesota electrical license renewal.

Applications for the apprenticeship are taken online with a $40 application fee and are open year-round, though hiring happens as needed, usually in late spring and summer. Entry is competitive, with more than a thousand applications a year. The training center is in St. Michael, a suburb of Minneapolis, and the committee's jurisdiction covers much of central Minnesota.
