North Carolina State Laboratory of Public Health

The North Carolina State Laboratory of Public Health is the state's public health lab. It provides medical and environmental laboratory testing, consultation and training to public and private health provider organizations across the state. Its testing areas include microbiology, virology and serology, newborn screening, childhood blood lead testing, and drinking and private well water analysis.

Most work comes in from clinics, hospitals and local health departments, which submit specimens by courier or mail using the lab's forms and packaging guidance. Private well owners can have their water tested through the lab's water sample program. The lab is on District Drive in Raleigh, and it keeps a separate mailing address for postal and state courier deliveries.
