Newport Creamery

Newport Creamery is a family restaurant known for the Awful Awful, a thick milkshake-style drink made with the company's own locally produced ice milk. The Awful Awful was created in New Jersey in the 1940s, and Newport Creamery bought its trademark in the early 1970s. The menu also includes Big Beef Burgers, breakfast, and locally made ice cream, and the restaurant has been serving diner-style food since 1928.

The chain has eight locations across Rhode Island and Massachusetts, and this one is the Providence restaurant. Gift cards are available, and a rewards club shares promotions. Catering is offered, including an ice cream sundae bar and an ice cream truck for events. In March 2026 the Waterside Group acquired the company, which says the menu and the Awful Awful will stay the same.
