Accounting & bookkeeping in Portland

Accounting and bookkeeping firms help people and small organizations keep their finances in order, from recording everyday transactions and running payroll to preparing tax returns, planning for retirement and the future, and sorting out an estate. Some also offer audits, reviews and compilations, or act as a part-time chief financial officer for a growing business. When you call a firm in Portland, ME, ask whether the person doing your work holds a CPA license or another recognized credential, and whether they have experience with your type of situation, such as self-employment, rental property or a family business. Tax season fills calendars quickly, so reaching out in late winter or early spring, rather than the week before a deadline, usually gives you more choice and a less rushed review.
