Animal Care League

Animal Care League is a no-kill animal shelter that takes in stray animals for eight villages and also accepts owner surrenders and transfers from other organizations when space allows. It is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit that has served the community since 1973, and most of its funding comes from donors. Adoptable dogs, cats and small pets are listed on its site, along with a dog training program that places trained dogs for adoption.

The adoption center is at 1009 Garfield Street in Oak Park, and adoptions run Wednesday through Sunday. Lost pets can be reclaimed by calling the separate lost-pet line, which is staffed daily. The group also runs a low-cost clinic offering spay/neuter and vaccines, a thrift shop, and a pet food and supply pantry for families who need help.
