Thornewood Castle

Thornewood Castle is a historic Tudor Gothic estate on the shore of American Lake, built with pieces of a 400-year-old English castle shipped to the Pacific Northwest a century ago. It is best known for its overnight suites and rooms, and for weddings, receptions and corporate retreats held on its grounds, including the Olmsted Brothers gardens and 16th century stained glass.

The castle is a private residence in a gated neighborhood, so it cannot be toured on a walk-up basis; visitors see it as overnight guests or as guests at a private event. Overnight rooms and vacation rentals can be booked online, with a 15% discount on web reservations. Phone calls are taken Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Pacific Time. The castle is in Lakewood, about 12 miles south of Tacoma and 42 miles south of Seattle.
