Pawsperity

Pawsperity is a nonprofit grooming school in Kansas City that trains students in dog grooming through a seven-month program of roughly 810 hands-on classroom hours. Students, many of them single mothers living in poverty, also take life skills courses in budgeting, parenting, mindfulness and job preparation, along with case management, housing and food help. Graduates get 18 months of job placement support through its Bridge Program.

The school's grooming services are open to the public at low cost, and the revenue goes back into the training program. Appointments can be booked online or by phone. The school is at 5805 Troost Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri, and it reports that 92 percent of recent graduates were placed in jobs within six months.
