Free Medical and Dental Clinic

Free Medical and Dental Clinic is a nonprofit that has provided care without charge since 1971, serving people in the Iowa City area who face financial barriers to health care. General medicine visits cover minor illnesses, urinary tract infections, sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment, and physicals, while patients with ongoing conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure are seen in regular chronic care clinics.

Most care is by appointment, and a limited number of walk-in spots are offered on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, seen in the order they arrive, so arriving early helps. Prescriptions are filled only for medicines written by the clinic's own doctors, and dental care is currently paused. Mental health care is not offered, and patients are referred to other providers. Spanish is spoken, and the clinic helps patients apply for drug company assistance programs.
