Tufts Special Care Dental Clinics

Tufts Special Care Dental Clinics provides comprehensive dental care for adults and children with developmental disabilities living in Massachusetts. The program began in 1976 and now serves more than 6,500 patients through clinics across the state, with care delivered by faculty providers from Tufts University's School of Dental Medicine.

Caregivers start by calling the nearest clinic, where staff help determine eligibility and verify insurance, since each patient must first meet certain qualifications. Accepted coverage includes MassHealth, Delta Dental, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and self-pay, and the clinics cannot provide free care. The Hathorne clinic is at Hogan Regional Center on Maple Street. For urgent problems after hours, current patients are directed to emergency dental care at Tufts Medical Center in Boston.
