Peake Childhood Center

Peake Childhood Center is a private nonprofit early childhood education center that has served children from 6 weeks to age 5 since opening in 1971. Its curriculum is developmentally appropriate and built around play, and the Hampton center is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Teachers hold degrees in early childhood education or related fields, and the staff keep up with ongoing professional development.

Tuition is set on a sliding scale based on family income and need, which the center describes as the only one of its kind on the Peninsula. Families come from across the Peninsula and some from South Hampton Roads. Virginia Department of Social Services and military childcare subsidies are accepted. To apply, families complete an application online and email it or bring it to the Hampton or Newport News center. Space is limited, and submitting an application does not guarantee enrollment.
