Five Star Engines

Five Star Engines remanufactures engines in its own machine shop, selling crate engines built for high performance and replacement engines for everyday driving. Its crate lineup includes Chevy 350 and 383 builds rated from 310 to 360 horsepower, and the shop can also custom build an engine to a customer's specs. Work covers cylinder head rebuilding, block boring, crankshaft grinding and engine balancing. The company has been in business since 1990 and has a dirt track racing background, including a 2002 IMCA Supernationals win.

Replacement engines come with a six-month, unlimited-mileage warranty, which suits drivers who want to keep a car they already know. Customers can choose from a range of engine colors. The shop keeps weekday business hours and is closed on weekends, so plan calls and visits for Monday through Friday. The company holds an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, and Chris Smith is listed as the owner.
