Historic fort, museums and waterfront at Old Point Comfort83 20 Ingalls Road, Fort Monroe, VA

Fort Monroe Authority manages Fort Monroe, the historic army post at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay that has guarded this point of land for at least 400 years. The grounds hold the Casemate Museum, the 1619 African Landing Memorial and the Old Point Comfort Lighthouse, along with a seawall trail, miles of beaches, a fishing pier and a marina. The fort was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1960 and became a national monument by executive order in 2011.
Visitors can book a curated experience at the memorial, which is offered to tour buses, school groups and families. Groups of ten or more should email or call ahead before visiting. The waterfront gazebo and lawn at Continental Park host private events, and the authority also leases homes and workspaces on the grounds. The Visitor Center and Casemate Museum keep a shorter schedule in the off-season.
