Head Start, child care and early intervention for Native families3700 P.O. Box 306 Pima Drive, Fort Hall, ID
The Shoshone-Bannock Early Childhood Program runs three services for young children and their families: Head Start, a child care program, and Early Intervention. Head Start provides health and education services to 75 low-income children ages 3 to 5, and the child care program serves toddlers, preschoolers and after-school children up to age 12 whose parents work or attend school.
Head Start and Early Intervention have eligibility requirements, and child care is for families under 85 percent of the Idaho State Median Income. Child care fees are charged monthly on a sliding scale of 2 to 5 percent of gross monthly income, and the waiting list is long, so families may want to ask early. Early Intervention works with children from birth to age 5 and their families in their homes and at monthly parent trainings and playgroups across the reservation. The program is based in Fort Hall on the Fort Hall Indian Reservation.
