Ethiopian feasts shared from one tray with injera545 W. 9 Mile Rd., Ferndale, MI
Blue Nile Ferndale is an Ethiopian restaurant built around shared meals. Its Vegetarian Feast and Ethiopian Feast are served on one large tray lined with injera, the fresh-baked flatbread, and diners scoop up the food with it. The meat choices include doro wat, chicken simmered in spiced butter and berbere sauce, and yebeg alecha, tender lamb with garlic and jalapeños. The restaurant also serves honey wine and spiced cinnamon tea.
The restaurant serves dinner only, Wednesday through Sunday, and is closed Monday and Tuesday. Online ordering and carry-out are available, and the room is known for its dim, romantic booths and low tables, which makes it popular for first dates. Owner Seifu Lessanework has run the restaurant on 9 Mile Road in Ferndale for many years, and the walls are decorated with Ethiopian Orthodox paintings and hanging umbrellas.
