Heartwood Nursery

Heartwood Nursery has grown native plants since 1987 and is best known for American Holly, which it propagates in larger numbers than any other U.S. nursery. The nursery carries more than 300 native trees, shrubs, perennials, ferns and grasses, grown without pesticides or herbicides, and sells them both wholesale and at retail. Its Holly Arboretum holds hundreds of mature hollies and is a Holly Society of America Certified Arboretum and Test Center.

The nursery sits on a 70-acre property in Felton, in southern York County, about 15 miles west of the Susquehanna River. It is open year-round, Monday through Saturday, and staff will answer questions about choosing natives for a garden or property. Public events run in every season, including wreathmaking workshops and a Serviceberry Festival, and community groups can book tours of the working nursery.
