James E. Short, PLC

James E. Short, PLC is a criminal defense and family law practice led by attorney James Short, who has more than 30 years of experience. The firm handles DUI and DWI, reckless driving, criminal defense, family law and personal injury matters, and Short practices in all local state courts and in federal court for criminal cases. He began his career as an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney for the City of Portsmouth and has served as a former president of the Chesapeake City Bar Association.

Consultations are with Short himself rather than a paralegal. Calls to the office are scheduled as in-person or phone appointments, usually within 24 to 48 hours, and the firm does not take unscheduled calls during active cases, so email replies may take up to a day or more. The office is on Madison Plaza in Chesapeake, and the firm offers a complimentary 20-minute criminal defense strategy session.
