Park and Recreation

Mecklenburg County's Park and Recreation department runs the Sportsplex at Matthews, a county athletic complex that hosts organized and recreational amateur sports. The complex has 11 lighted multipurpose fields, nine with synthetic turf and two with natural grass, plus a 4,300-seat stadium with natural grass, a videoboard and locker rooms. A conference room is available for meetings, VIP space and team space.

Individuals and groups can reserve the athletic fields throughout the year, and the county posts separate request forms for fields, the stadium, tournaments and the conference room. Recent fall events on the calendar include a lacrosse classic and several tournaments and training camps. The Sportsplex is in Matthews, while the department's business office is in Charlotte and open on weekdays.
