Central Furniture Rescue

Central Furniture Rescue is a nonprofit that collects gently used furniture and household items and gives them at no cost to individuals and families moving out of homelessness and into their own places to live. Beds, dressers, tables, chairs and kitchenware are sorted in its warehouse and matched to each client's needs, with referrals coming from area homeless and women's shelters. It also sells overstock or high-value items, and the proceeds go back into the mission.

Donations of household items are accepted Monday through Friday during posted hours, and large furniture such as couches, beds and dressers can be dropped off on Mondays and Fridays or on a monthly bonus Saturday. Appointments are available for people who can't make those times. The group is also a volunteer opportunity for individuals and groups, and it works with local veteran housing and sober-living homes. The office is on 16th Avenue SW in Cedar Rapids.
