The Great American Photo Lab

The Great American Photo Lab develops color negative, black and white, slide, sheet and disposable camera film, and makes photographic prints on Fuji crystal archive paper. Its lab uses Hostert dip-and-dunk machines, Clayton chemistry for black and white film, Fuji chemistry for color and slide film, and a Noritsu QSS-32 scanner. Founded in 1978 as North Coast Photographic Services, the business now operates from Carlsbad.

Customers can walk in or mail in their film, and mailed orders are returned by U.S.P.S. Priority Mail, usually about two days after the lab receives them. Print orders can be emailed or sent through a file transfer service. Film developing starts as low as $11.50, not including scans or prints. Out-of-state customers sometimes stop by when they visit Carlsbad, and the staff includes technicians with decades of combined experience.
