Nelly Berman School of Music

The Nelly Berman School of Music is a community music school offering individual lessons on many instruments, plus chamber music, orchestra, jazz improv, harpsichord, theory and composition. Its brass program, including French horn and trumpet, is a particular focus, and students have gone on to places like the Juilliard School.

New students can schedule a free evaluation with the school's director, who matches each student with an instrument and teacher based on aptitude and learning style. The school also runs summer camps and a concerto competition, and its affiliated NBS Classical Music Institute, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, offers scholarships and hosts concerts and masterclasses. The school is at 461 W. Lancaster Avenue in Haverford.
