Brainerd Public Utilities

Brainerd Public Utilities is a municipally owned utility providing electric, water and wastewater service in Brainerd, parts of Baxter and surrounding townships. Its hydroelectric dam on the Mississippi River supplies about 10.5 percent of customer energy, and its water plant treats roughly 1.55 million gallons a day from six deep wells, mainly removing iron and manganese. The wastewater plant handles about 2.2 million gallons daily from both cities.

Field crews stay on standby to respond to outages and emergencies day or night. The business office handles billing, payment options, customer deposits and starting, stopping or transferring service on weekdays. Its published fee schedule covers reconnections, temporary service and special events.
