Nearly New Thrift Store is run by Brighton Allston Congregational Church, UCC, and sells secondhand clothing, accessories and other donated treasures. The shop began during World War II, when the church's Women's Association started it to help pay for heating oil. Today all of its proceeds go to the church's Food Pantry rather than to church overhead, and the store received a Best of Boston award in 2024.
Donations of seasonally appropriate clothing and other items are accepted only during open hours, and the church cannot take computers, computer parts or furniture. The shop is on the first floor, reached by a wheelchair-accessible ramp on the side of the building. Volunteers help sort donations and run the shop during weekly shifts. The church is in Brighton.
