Dog obedience classes and AKC trials since the 1950s6629 Northwest 23rd Street, Bethany, OK
Oklahoma City Obedience Training Club is a nonprofit that has taught people to train their dogs since the early 1950s, when three women who had watched an obedience trial in Tulsa started it. Classes cover puppy and beginner obedience, rally, and scent work, and the club holds AKC obedience and scent work trials each year. Nearly every breed has come through its classes, from champions to mixed-breed dogs.
Every instructor is a volunteer, and about 27 of them teach roughly 600 dogs a year. Classes meet on weeknights, Monday and Wednesday through Friday from 6 to 9 pm, and not on Tuesdays or weekends. Puppy and beginner classes spend the first week on orientation without dogs. Enrollment is online, and you do not need to be a member to take classes or compete. The club also runs a therapy dog program for hospital, nursing home and school visits, and a scholarship for an Oklahoma State vet student.
