Surf City Bait and Tackle

Surf City Bait and Tackle is a bait and tackle shop on Long Beach Island, known as the oldest continuously operating one on the island and serving anglers and crabbers since the late 1930s. The shop stocks fresh and frozen bait, including green crabs, sand fleas, surf clams, bunker, bloodworms, sandworms and squid, plus live minnows when available. It also carries rigs made locally by Surf & Bay Rig Co. in Surf City.

The staff are avid anglers who give advice for fishing and crabbing trips. The shop hosts free fishing classes, a kids' crabbing contest and an in-store fluke tournament each season. Customers who can't come in can call or email to have tackle shipped, though bait and rods are excluded. The shop is closed for the season and set to reopen in spring. It sits on Long Beach Boulevard in Surf City, and the property is under contract to a new local family who plan to keep the same name and line of business.
