About SisterHearts

The story

SisterHearts is a nonprofit decarceration and reentry program that runs a thrift-style shop to support people returning from prison or jail. It works with formerly incarcerated people on healing from prison trauma, personal development, transportation, bank account and driver's license support, and other resources for reintegrating into society. Its swag line of notebooks, mugs, totes, hats, tees and hoodies helps fund participants in the program.

The shop is open Tuesday through Saturday, and visitors can shop and meet participants in person. SisterHearts is located in Arabi in St. Bernard Parish and serves residents of Chalmette and surrounding areas of New Orleans. Volunteers are welcome to help with inventory, greeting customers and other shop work, and donations of funds and time are accepted.
