Mediterranean fine dining with flaming saganaki and seafood

Steakhouse dinners, Friday fish fry and a historic College Avenue bar733 W College Ave, Appleton, WI

Spats is a long-running restaurant and bar on College Avenue in Appleton, housed in a building dating to 1922. The menu leans toward steakhouse dinners, including a hand-cut ribeye and a grilled hanger steak, alongside burgers, sandwiches and a popular Friday night fish fry with hand-breaded fish. Ingredients are sourced from local family businesses such as Manderfields Family Bakery, Acoca Coffee, Stone Arch Brewery and Jacobs Meat Market.
The bar pours Wisconsin-only beers on tap, along with bottled beer, a selected wine list and cocktails. In warmer months the outdoor dining area, called the Spatio, is open for drinks and dinner, often with live entertainment. Sunday brunch runs in the late morning and early afternoon, and lunch is served on Fridays, with catering available. Owners Bri and Nick run the kitchen, and phone-in or online to-go orders are available.
