Yankee-Clipper is a neighborhood bar and grill in Uptown Ankeny, known locally for its White Russians and made-from-scratch Bloody Marys. Lunch offers a full menu of appetizers, soups, salads and sandwiches on weekdays, and the full menu is also served Friday nights. Tuesday is the night for its bread-dough tacos.
The bar seats 80 and has a connected patio that fills up on warm summer days and evenings, along with a party room. Kitchen hours are shorter than bar hours, so check before ordering late. Owners Mike and Terri Sawatzky bought the bar in 1984 and have kept its hometown feel. It is also a handy stop for riders on the local bike trails.
